| 1. How do I distinguish between a simple internet address and a real company? |
|
It is very important to distinguish between a simple Internet address (virtual company) and a company that is legally authorized. Choosing carefully usually results in additional advantages:
Tourism companies are identified with a “Dirección Nacional de Servicios Turísticos de la Secretaria de Turismo de la Nación” (National Center of Touristic Services in the National Tourism Department) file number.
Our file number is 7639.
You can verify this and any other authorized company by viewing the following link at the "Secretaría de Turismo de la Nación" (National Tourism Department) website:
- In the link Agencias de Viaje (Travel Agencies), click on the Turismo Receptivo (Local Tourism) link.
- Click on "Agencias que operan Turismo Receptivo". (Agencies that are out fitters of the local tourism)
- In this web page you will find a list of all the Tourism Agencies, organized by provinces, allphabetically ordered. Check in Mendoza (between pages 12 to 16), there you will find us. |
| 2. How I make sure that the services I hired will be provided? |
|
We are the first Argentinean Company of Expeditions which got the accreditation of the ISO 9001:2000 quality standard. This is the one that governs our Quality system.
We decided to start walking this new trail because we know that your decision to leave your country looking for an adventure is not easy, especially if it takes place in a country far from home.
For an organization as Aymará Adventure and Expeditions to be within the standards of an international quality standard it is a great commitment. This means that when you book our services and they are confirmed, our company takes it as an obligation. If a company does not fulfill the passengers’ requirements, it can carry serious consequences.
Each organization is responsible for the development of its processes, generating tools to have everything under control. Besides, each certificated organization must be evaluated by third or independent organizations, which control the fulfillment and the adjustment of the system.
Our system was certified by the well known company called SGS Argentina (General Socíeté of Surveillance) and this makes us the first company in Argentina regarding Quality Systems in tourist organizations developing expeditions or non-conventional programs.
We hope to fulfill all your expectations in the experience that you will live. Thank you for allowing us to accompany you. |
| 3. Check the membership of the company. |
|
We, Aymara Adventures & Expeditions, take as our the Environmental Objectives and Guidelines of UIAA (International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation), committing with the environment and natural life in every activity we do.
Aymará is member of the "Asociación Americana de Agentes de Viaje" (American Society of Travel Agents – ASTA). This is another real guarantee that assures you quality and security in the services that you are offered.

4. How long have you been in this business, and how many clients per year do you operate? |
|
Aymará has been operating for the last 15 years, during this time we have developed into one of the leading companies specializing in expeditions to the Andes.
During the months of December, January and February, 2004/2005, we lead 30 commercial expeditions to the Aconcagua summit, and we offer supporting services during the expeditions, to 1.400 climbers. |
| 5. Which mountain equipment do you use? |
|
Nowadays we are proud to be the only company in Argentina who's expeditions are supported by The North Face.
We strive to have our mountain material actualized, assuring the highest security and quality standards for the equipment. Generally, Mt. Aconcagua has good weather during summer season. However, bad weather experiences quickly remind us of our un-control over nature. For this reason, we insist in providing our expeditions with high quality dormitory tents in the camps. Our star attraction; The North Face Ve 25, is a model that has performed extremely well over the years. |
| 6. Check company references. |
|
We will be happy to give you our clients' references. |
| 7. What is the maximum people in a group? |
|
15 years of experience have taught us that the maximum number of passengers per expedition should be 12.
Passenger numbers in private expeditions go from one upwards. |
| 8. What happens if the minimum number of passengers is not obtained? |
|
Our expeditions are guaranteed 100%. Expeditions go ahead once a date has been arranged regardless of whether we meet numbers or not. Unlike other companies that organize expeditions Aymará maintains that the risk of meeting numbers should be one for the company and not for the clients. If by chance we cannot get the passengers, the expedition goes on with no surcharge, respecting the original itinerary and all the included services in the program. |
| 9. How many guides per person? |
|
Aymará provides 1 guide for every 3 / 4 clients for each expedition. This insures that the whole group is completely assisted at all times and everywhere. If a member of the group needs to descend or goes slower than the rest of the group, he / she will always be accompanied by one of our guides. |
| 10. Who will lead my expedition? |
|
Our team of guides has invaluable experience in both leading expeditions and work in the mountain. We develop our programs and logistics very carefully with the assistance of the guides. We insure you that our guides' main responsibility is your security on the mountain.
The guides are carefully selected and trained in accordance to the standard of quality required by our clients.
All of them guarantee their formal knowledge of working with groups through their extensive experience and specific professional training during the 2 and a half years career training, at the prestigious "Escuela Mendocina de Guías de Alta Montańa y Trekking" (EPGAMT - Provincial School of High Mountain and Trekking Guides) or the hard national exam of the "Asociación Argentina de Guías de Montańa" (AAGM - Argentinean Association of Mountain Guides).
Guiding an expedition to Mt. Aconcagua requires guides with experience in high mountain and high security. |
| 11. How do you acclimatize to the height? |
|
We are sure that the key to reach the summit of Mt. Aconcagua is acclimatization. This takes some time. Because of the time required, we include a night in Puente del Inca, two nights in the Intermediate Camps (3.000 m) and five nights the Base Camps (4.30 m). This way our expedition gives you, and every member of the group (not only the stronger ones) the opportunity to reach the summit. However, if you feel that this is not enough for you, you may also take part in an extra expedition of 2 days at the Base Camp before the whole group arrives. With this, you should definitely make it! |
| 12. What happens if the program is delayed because of bad weather conditions? |
|
We include 2 extra days in the itinerary in preparation for any bad weather conditions.
It is easy for us to modify itineraries due to bad weather as everything is owned by us.
Rearranging the services is not a problem, but a solution. |
| 13. Who carries the common equipment to the camps? |
|
Common material included in an expedition is: dormitory tent, crockery, meals, oil, heaters, string and waste produced during the expedition.
In order to avoid our passengers extreme efforts, we include porters to carry the mentioned equipment in our expeditions.
Aymará has its own mountain porter team. Most companies avoid including this very important service in order to reduce their costs.
However, porters help the members of the team to be able to move lighter in the camps and that way, they can concentrate their energies for the summit day. |
| 14. How do you communicate in the mountains? |
|
We have fixed communication points in the mountain. We communicate via VHF and BLU radio between the camps, Plaza de Mulas, Plaza Argentina, Confluencia, Puente del Inca and Mendoza. All of our guides have VHF radios and they are in constant contact from every point in the mountain with our base camps, Rescue groups and rangers. This way we can answer any eventuality almost immediately with a satellite phone. We have also incorporated a satellite phone in each one of the camps. |
| 15. How do you manage the waste in the camps? |
|
Our expeditions strictly carry out with the enviroment care. All groups must take down the waste they cause. If the itinerary allows it, we remove the faeces materials caused by the group also. For that, we use a toilet tent and a container where the passengers must put their own waste. Porters take care of taking it down and at the end of the expedition they give it to the municipal office for treatment. |
| 16. Who will answer my questions before, during and after my check in? |
|
Passion, experience and commitment identify our team.
Demands, needs and even reacting on whims are our challenge in order to give the best.
A personalized and specialized service will advise and inform you of all the related topics during your expedition. |
| 17. Who prepares the food and provides the water during the expedition? |
|
Meals in our expeditions are carefully organized by nutrition specialists, calculating the daily calories, carbohydrates, flavor and variety. In our camps, our chefs will surprise you. At altitude, our guides will be in charge of cooking.
We also prepare special menues for vegetarians or passengers with any food allergies or special requests. |
| 18. Can you arrange my airline ticket and pre and post extensions? |
|
In our airline reservations department, you can check in the big variety of international and national flights.
We can also help you in your extensions all around the Andes from Tierra del Fuego to Ecuador. |
| 19. Can I do this trip on my own and save some money? |
|
Yes, you can take-part in our expeditions and trekkings on your own, but both time and money costs would be substantially higher.
However, a program with all the services included gives you the possibility of accessing more and better services for the best price.
For example; one high mountain guide trained to guide you along the Normal Route of Aconcagua, currently charges U$D 2.100.-
Our Normal Route Program, with all its services included for 19 days, has a price of U$D 1.935.-
Paying U$D 165.- less, you have hotels, food, porters, tents, transfers, base camp, mules and more…
We can offer this, because the program has a start date, and a maximum of 14 people, thus the fee of the services is divided between all passengers. This way it makes it more realistic for those who wish to reach the top of the America's highest mountain. |
